Information

Being a volunteer is a super fun and rewarding experience! Volunteers can expect to perform positions such as helping with specific events or rooms (i.e. game rooms, exhibitors), line control, registration, roaming, badge check, and more. By working in these various roles, you will have the chance to see what it is like working for a convention, to meet new people, and to gain new experiences. Our volunteer program is a rewarding experience for all – giving a great glimpse into convention running while working together to accomplish something special.

Volunteering

Requirements

All volunteers must meet the following requirements in order to be eligible to volunteer. Failure to meet these requirements will lead to rejection of the volunteer application.

• You must be at least 18 years of age to volunteer.
• You must pre-register for a Weekend Badge.
• You must complete the volunteer form below.
• You must volunteer for a minimum of 10 hours across the convention weekend in order to be eligible for perks.
• You must show up to all of your scheduled shifts during the convention on time.
• You must check-in and check-out of your shifts at the Convention Ops Room.
• You must pay your pre-registration fee prior to volunteering during the weekend.
• You must attend a short (30-45 minutes) mandatory virtual training session prior to the convention.

Perks

The following perks are available for volunteering throughout the weekend:

• Access to Shared Staff and Volunteer Break Space in the Convention Ops Room.
• Snacks and Non-Alcoholic Drinks Provided Throughout the Weekend.

The following perks are available only after successfully completing the minimum 10 volunteer hours at the convention:

• Reimbursement of a pre-registered weekend badge.

Expectations

All volunteers are expected to:

• Maintain a positive attitude at all times.
• Be respectful and polite to fellow volunteers, staffers, and attendees.
• Be willing to work with other volunteers and staffers.
• Communicate promptly both prior to and during the convention with staff.
• Attend and work the convention.
• Follow direction from management, leadership, and staffers.
• Abide by any additional rules discussed during volunteer training, provided by AnimeNJ++ staff, or posted on the AnimeNJ++ website.

Positions

The following is a list of potential volunteer positions that you may be placed in. Additional positions may be added based on convention needs.

• Badge Check: You will be responsible for checking the badges (and 18+ wristbands, if applicable) of individuals entering specific spaces (i.e. panel rooms) prior to them entering the space. Additionally, you will be responsible for recording the number of attendees entering the room during a given period.
• Info Desk: You will be responsible for answering any questions attendees may have, including providing directions, discussing the schedule, and providing advice. You will also be responsible for handing out 18+ wristbands to those with a valid ID.
• Line Control: You will be responsible for supervising lines to ensure that the line is orderly, not causing traffic jams, and that no one is line jumping or cutting the line.
• Roaming: You will be responsible for patrolling the convention floor, ensuring that all policies are being followed by our attendees, that foot traffic is not being disrupted, that there are no incidents, and being a friendly face on the convention floor that our attendees can ask questions to. You additionally may be responsible for helping out in other areas of the convention, such as relieving volunteers for quick bathroom breaks, being pulled in by staff to help out in specific roles, or delivering requested items from the Convention Ops Room to other areas of the convention.

Volunteer Application

Please complete the below application to the best of your ability and as complete as possible. This application, and the contents held within, shall be used by our Volunteer Team to select the volunteers for AnimeNJ++. Please ensure that you read all policies and information ahead of applying, as submitting an application binds you to these policies, if accepted.

Do note – this is not a first-come-first-accepted system. We will review all applications equally and will select from the list of applications. Please try to be as clear as possible with your application to allow for the easiest review of your submission.
